Bollington, Wash day and Provisioning

04/09/2017 Douglas 5 Comments

I can see this is going to be a fun day. The fridge is empty the food cupboards are bare the dirty washing pile is enormous and it is a grey Monday morning.

I suspect I am going to be dragged around the shops and cafes again. Not to mention the launderette. Actually, I don’t really mind, this is quite fun, lots of different places, different smells.

First thing this morning, I got him up for his walk but he soon put me on a lead and we went exploring, mostly around the roads, into this quite pretty town, not what I am used to but clearly there was a method here.

We identified a place called ‘The Washing Well’ I know my long haired one will be pleased about that it is only about 300 meters from where we are moored and, as the rather clever name implies, it is a much needed launderette. As you know my washing machine is not functioning at the moment.

After breakfast, sure enough several bags of dirty washing were transported out of my long kennel and loaded onto a trolley, (it belongs to my kennel for this purpose) and dragged to ‘The Washing Well’ then a bit of a walk in the opposite direction and lots of food shopping was collected from a big shop, (I wasn’t allowed in) and taken back to my long kennel on the same trolley, then back to ‘The Washing Well’ from where bags of clean washing were then loaded and brought back to my long kennel on the trolley which was then collapsed (as did my bearded one) and stowed on my roof. (The trolley not my bearded one) They tried to persuade me to pull it but I refused, I was exhausted.

I enjoyed the walks though, back and forth back and forth but was not impressed with the long wait outside the supermarket and so I ate my lead as I was bored.

Then it was lunch time and I think the humans decided they were going nowhere today and so I went to sleep. As I was asleep, I cannot report with accuracy but I suspect that after they had lunch they had a little sleep too.

Tonight I know they are having another dinner party. This culinary surprise is being prepared by Barbie in the Galley of Micky Jay but it will be consumed in the dining room of my kennel and I will be helping to serve drinks at 5:30. My photo today is of their dining hall in my kennel.and mine on the floor!

Love Douglas x

Sleeping’s good Douglas. We do it all the time!
We were brave and spent the weekend with Matt and Samira in their house in Stepney Green. We helped with the garden and did some digging. We growled at their neighbours too which seemed the right thing to do! Glad you are running your trip for the humans so well !

    Hi Dog-less!

I have had your blog read to me by my obliging Lady Companion but she was unable to comment as purr my instructions. She got befuddled, more than usual, and could not log in… She assures me it’s all ok now and so I’m sending woofs and licks to you and yours. It sounds like you’re having some great adventures although I don’t understand all the human’s problems … Running low on food, I get that; but what’s with the laundry thing. I’m sure you’re like me and clean your coat regularly. Haven’t they got tongues?

Life is pretty boring here and I’m dozing a lot – even when we go for walks there’s not much to chase as it’s hot and I think everything is dozing in the shade. There were a few days, about a week ago, when everything smelt amazing. I’d not slept well one night, disturbed by what I’m told is called rolling thunder … and lots of flashing lights … also some water falling from the sky. When I went out for my morning patrol the air was just heavy with scent: warm, damp, and laden with distractions. I did not want to rush home but succumbed to the promise of biscuits. Thankfully the goat poo was still fragrant for several days…

Before I sign off I would just remind you of the dangers of roaming. As you know I had an unwelcome encounter with a motorcycle some months ago. I was off-lead at the time and it was partly my fault. Many times I forget to look right and left, rushing straight ahead in my pursuit of smelliness, or to greet a friend. This can result in extreme trauma, mainly to our elderly companions who may suffer a heart attack. Please consider their wellbeing and try not to make them anxious. Remember to paws for thought before barking up the wrong tree.

    Happy squirrel hunting.

Hi there BD great to hear from you. I could do with some of your sunshine. Today it is wet but today is tomorrow as I am replying to your yesterday post! If you understand – we are entering the Peak Forest Canal tomorrow but that is the day after tomorrow for you – o this is silly today, as I reply to you it is a wet Wednesday – I think. Miss you

So glad comms are now working and we can woof on the web! Listening to your post (it has to be read out loud to me because if my nose gets too near the screen I lick it which displeased Lady C) I fear you have been drinking something other than water… It might be a wet Wednesday where you are but it’s still Chews-day here! However, I wouldn’t have known that if Lady C hadn’t checked the calendar. None of us are ever sure if it’s Moan-day, Chews-day, Wet-Wednesday, Turds-day, Fryup-day, Sit-stay-day, or Sun-day, no matter. Everyday is a good-day methinks. Must go now, I’ve got a bone to chew. Take care and stay dry.
