Douglas Diary Autumn Hols
I feel Douglas Diary is not an ideal or appropriate medium to report this sad misfortune but I have taken over the Diary for the time being as I know there are many friends who are subscribed. Readers might not have heard and would like to be informed of the following. Accordingly, I am taking over Douglas Diary with updates on Jan’s situation for our friends.
I am sorry to report that dear Jan, yesterday, just as we arrived at our last lock of the day, suffered a nasty accident. She has broken her hip in a fall in an attempt at operating a very stubborn lock gate (we were in a remote location and it was raining heavily) After a 999 call she was attended to by paramedics who extraordinarily managed to reach us within a half an hour. She was carefully attended to at the scene and transported to Hospital for immediate attention. This was at 16:00.
After thorough assessments, x-rays etc a hip fracture was confirmed and she was admitted to The Royal Stoke University Hospital, she was operated on at the first opportunity which was at midday (Saturday). It was a long operation involving some metal work . She has been returned to her ward and is in good spirits. As we know more I will report it in this daily blog.
NHS has been superb, a highly commendable performance, I have nothing but praise for their care and attention.
I am sure that you will understand, that I will use this diary for this purpose of keeping our friends up to date on Jan’s progress.
With best wishes
