Douglas Diary Autumn Hols
Part 7 Cheddington
My bearded one woke me this morning, rather rudely, as he climbed from his bed, he trod on me! He was very apologetic, it was, in fairness, partly my fault because I got up earlier, a train whistle woke me and I just lay down beside their bed waiting to take him for his walk. Anyway all was well, no harm done and as we went for our walk and watched the railway trains steaming up shunting back and forth huffing and puffing and whistling in preparation for our little journey later today.
Last night there was a bit of a disappointment, they had apparently all been looking forward to going out for a celebratory meal with Mr Marston at the Boat outside of which we were moored as per my photo yesterday. It was my pet David’s birthday imminently. Well I have to report this did not happen. The kitchen was closed due to an absence of chef! My long haired one came to their rescue and produced a lovely beef Stroganoff from my galley, I had Chappie and biscuits and an early night. – for a change! She then went on to win three games of Rummikup in a row!
Today we are going on a steam train ride. This is very exciting. At 11:50 Hotspur chugged into Cheddleton Station, we purchased a ticket each, I was the cheapest and off we trundled to Consul Forge. A ten minute stop there and then off to Froghall. Another ten minute stop and back to Consul Forge and The Black Lion. One of my favourites. We got off here. Hotspur was due to take us back to Cheddleton in one and a half hours. Plenty of time for that celebratory lunch.
Back on my long kennel, the sun was shining for an evening cruise to the end of The Caldon Canal where we turned around and headed back. We got as far as The Hollybush ,,, see tomorrow!!

Hello Douglas,
I hope you enjoyed your trip to the far north recently.
I certainly enjoyed showing you around the area and allowing your pets- not you though- to taste Craster Kippers.
I remember you taking me to The Black Lion when I visited Albert last year.
Enjoy your biscuits!
Best wishes
Jim
