Day 22 Tamworth – Fradley Junction
Maybe winter or at least Autumn has returned today. I woke the bearded one early because I could tell it was going to rain quite soon (our sort know these things) and I don’t like the rain. I took him for his walk right away. We knew there were just two locks ahead of us barely one hundred yards from our mooring and my bearded one thought it a good idea to get through these before the weather deteriorated. On our walk we noticed that the locks were already set in our favour. After my normal ablutions, we fairly smartly returned to my long kennel as the first drops of rain arrived. He donned his condom suit, gave me my Bonio (my breakfast) and weighed in the anchor. My long haired one meanwhile was attending to the preparation of their breakfast. After just a short cruise away from Tamworth and through the locks we passed Fradley Junction and moored at a pretty spot where the canal passes, on an aqueduct over the River Tame. They had their breakfast while the heavens opened and I watched them eat. Both the rain and breakfast over we continued our journey as patches of blue sky appeared. But so did the wind! This is a very attractive area and soon, as I was short changed on my early morning walk, I took my long haired one off and we walked for maybe three miles until she needed a rest. Onwards to Fradley Junction. It is still windy but dry. Here we are to meet with our friend John (their daughter’s father-in-law or something) at The Swan for supper (see photo). Love Douglas x

I look forward to that. Hope you had a good holiday. We have nearly finished this adventure one more day and my long kennel will be put to bed. We sail back a week today on 23 rd.

When our capt’n read out your weather to us- (we are not sure what it means), he kept muttering about equinoctial gales and said all sailors keep a weather eye open and batten down the hatches at this time of year. In fact, better to stay by the fireside. Suddenly it is cooler here-thing on the wall says 20 – we are causing havoc roaming our mountains chasing fat birds that tease us by running and only fly when we get close – capt’n says we will get shot !
