Day 25 Shipley to Rodley
We are approaching Leeds but we are making slow progress, there are so many swing bridges and it is raining continuously, it has been raining all day, I am not going out in it and so I am not taking my owners for their walks and I have not been naughty. I have been sleeping a lot.
The weather started off vey promising, with weak sunshine and we were looking forward to having a nice dry rendezvous at Rodley around lunch time to have a minor crew change.
In the event we made it only a far as Apperley at a convenient marina wharf for the change over in the rain but this turned out to be a good and convenient loading and unloading area.
Two young humans, Emelio and Ruben, of the grandchild variety joined us today for a few days and Mike and Barbie left us for a few days and will be returning next weekend.
We really hope to make Leeds tomorrow and then we have some decisions to make. Plan A is quite an adventurous journey back to base. My bearded one says he will explain this in detail later but suffice to say, we may need some extra muscles for the voyage ahead. If we are not thwarted by any stoppages due to the heavy rains. This means a climb over the Pennines, from all accounts, a memorable journey!
I did get out and brave the rain for a short while periodically today because we had some more staircase locks to negotiate. They are fun and a boy has to do what a boy has to do from time to time.
These staircase locks today are like the Bingley sets that we managed yesterday. This is where the water from the top lock chamber is used to fill the lower chambers. A great water conservancy process, as if we need it! It is however, quite ingenious.
A naughty crow took my bearded one’s donut while we were off my long kennel at a staircase lock see photos. – The naughty crow and a set of the staircase locks.

Hi Douglas. I am still a bit woozy from anaesthetic and can’t spell it anyway, cos this morning my owner looked in my ear and decided there must be something there, if not my brains. So off to vet, painful exam then I found myself asleep. Lots of prodding and an old grass seed found, anti-biotics and have to return for checkup they say. Napoleon is being as boisterous as ever and Fergus gets us up at 4.30 every morning. My owner seems to keep rushing out at night shouting and waving at something called a space station which he says you have no chance of seeing ‘cos of the rain. We don’t know what rain is ……..
Juno
ps. I forgot my password whatever that is…
Dear Juno so sorry to hear of your ear ache it is very painful, I am glad your keeper has taken you to the doctor – we call them vets. I am very well, a bit wet but having fun with two small humans that won’t leave me alone, I like it really. Love your brother Douglas x
By the way, my owner says we are all big ‘film stars’ ‘cos we have been seen 60,759 times on Youtube http://youtu.be/KiupuXv7P5k but it doesn’t feel any different and we still get the same cheap old food and hard floors………….. N & J
