Douglas Diary Monday 2nd May 2016 Day 13
I blame Mr Hobgoblin who they met last night at Mr Marston’s house Called The Poachers Pocket. I wasn’t invited but they all seemed to have a god time and it was nearly 08:00 before I could get him up and organised for his walk this morning. There were lots of other long kennels here near us and a few of my kind with whom I exchanged greetings. I expect it was a party last night. It was a calm welsh grey morning with no wind but considerably warmer than the previous week. I hesitate to mention the weather first thing as it has been prone to change. Today we should arrive at Llangollen but there are some exciting things to see on the way which might delay us. However, the first excitement as we were about to set off and unscheduled was my engine failed to start! Plenty of battery power but no sign of ignition! This has never happened to my long kennel before. We called in RCR. (River and Canal Rescue). A very nice gentleman called Ian came and bled my fuel filters. Bingo! By the way all this time, for about two hours (he drove from Market Harborough) it was raining, so we did not feel so sad about this delay. We left our mooring and The Poachers Pocket at about midday as the sun was struggling to take command and we had a pleasant sunshine cruise ahead and captain announced we need a P.O at Chirk Marina – He wasn’t thinking post office! All done while we had a picnic lunch there and we were once again on our way. We negotiated one long and one short tunnel and one aqueduct in a spectacular cruise as we actually entered Wales, hitherto we had just been flirting with the border. I walked a lot but we stopped just short of the big famous Telford aqueduct the Pontcysyllte to moor for the night, ( photo ) we were saving this adventure with my long kennel for the morning. We hope to arrive at Llangollen around midday tomorrow. Love Douglas

Great stuff Douglas, I am enjoying your blog. What a bummer, your engine failed, but at least you were able to stay in and have a little rest. Good job you joined the river rescue people.. xx
