Douglas Diary 16th August.
Cockerels crowing woke me up this morning, we are still moored outside the Black Lion at Consall. I took my bearded one for his early morning walk along the river bank. There was a distant whistle and then, a moment later, just like in the “Railway Children” there was my bearded one waving at a passing steam train and the driver waved back, I wagged my tail.
They decided to buy four OAP and one Dog ticket all first class and we went on a train journey. It was really lovely we sat in a compartment with a corridor and they were very comfy. I sat on the floor. We caught the train at Consall travelled to Froghall back to Consall Forge and on to Cheddleton where we went shopping. We climbed a very long hill to get the shopping (while I sat outside) and they had to buy some chips for sustinence, I got one. Then we walked back down the hill and caught our train back to Consall Forge. A lovely excursion.
They have booked supper at the Black Lion, it is steak night apparently, I am very hopefully that my bearded one’s eyes are bigger than his stomach. I will report tomorrow.
My photos today: our neighbour a very handsome Jacob Sheep. And our mooring with the Black Lion in the background.

Hi Douglas ! Yes, we can confirm that we are receiving your messages and growling more envious every day. But our boss told us that it was a pretty wet excuse telling you that the signal was so bad he had to rely on Pub WiFi ! He says you will probably find it is the name of another local brew ! (you may be able to use this secret information to improve your under table bribes) It is hot here and our boss says the hunters seem to have shot holes in our plastic water pipe last season when shooting our rabbits……….our boss was heard muttering something about them not being able to hit a camel’s arse with a banjo – but we don’t understand ……..
A great read.
Tell your owner to reply to my text. I am coming up your way on Wednesday and can stop by.
Looking forward to the nunkynonos xxx
