Douglas Diary Saturday 30th April 2016 Day 11
It was a bright, calm and sunny morning at Whitchurch and I let him lie in until 07:00 before I delivered my tongue into his ear, I find this a most effective way of waking him, it always produces a reaction. After breakfast they all decided they would like to visit the town which suited me just fine, it is about a mile walk there and a mile back to the center providing plenty of smells. Unfortunately, after about five minutes walking, it started to rain – again. This is getting tiresome. We sheltered under a holly tree for the rain to pass. Continuing, we arrived at this pretty town of Whitchurch mostly dry and they enjoyed wandering around all the small independent shops while I sat outside most of them and everyone that passed spoke kindly to me. Back on my long kennel we set off for Ellesmere about 5 hours away. We did not quite make it. We had a pleasant lunch stop but barely two hours short of our planned destination the weather turned seriously inclement. I did my best to keep up morale as we three boys sheltered under an umbrella on the Poop deck. It was disappointing as we were in magnificent walking country but too wet for comfort. Hopefully on our return this way I will be able to explore more. Apparently we are in Flintshire or Clwyd. My Captain and his mate David and I eventually gave up our position in favour of the warm fire our long haired ones had prepared awaiting us below decks. We moored in a pretty bluebell wood and battened down the hatches. I got a rub down and they enjoyed a waiting cup of tea and a piece of cake. They thought it a better idea to stop at Ellesmere in the morning for breakfast and stay put for tonight. My photo was late this evening after it had stopped raining. Love Douglas

Douglas:
You look like you need a few hot sunny days to dry out. One thing is certain: you are never short of adventures when you travel in your long kennel.
I am happy to hear you are keeping your bearded one fit. I can only imagine how delighted he must be to be awakened by a kiss at 6:30. Douglas, you are a credit to your species.
Much love,
Nancy
Hello Nancy, yes he does like me licking his ear in the early morning – he says. We have been lucky on our early morning walks with the weather this is why I don’t let him lie in.
Love Douglas
Hello Douglas –
A welcome from lovely sunny Eastbourne. I have been playing with Mr Fox in the garden, Daddy has been playing golf and Mummy enjoying the sunshine – ha ha! No rain here anyway: lots of blossom on my favourite climbing tree, too.
You do look miserable in your photo so I have to feel a little srry for you, I suppose.
Now – two messages for you: Daddy says it’s a pity you have to spell ‘centre’ the American way . . . and Mummy says that she has got your bearded one’s pills but thinks they are still worng – hey are called Pravastatin.
I must go and sit in the sun.
Love and scratches
Millie
Thank you Millie I am glad you are having nice weather. Glad to your keeper has managed to play some golf with Len I presume? I hear he is better, my bearded one says he will give you a lesson when he gets back.
Love Douglas
P.S. Can’t spell center? Think yourself lucky I can right anything
That is a lovely picture of you Douglas. Good job you have all got a sense of humour, you must be getting flipping tired of all that rain, but then you are in Wales! It must be nice to go down to a lovely warm fire. We had to remove our chimney because the bridges are very low on the Basingstoke, one being 5′ 9″ Our front tunnel light got mashed under one of them which means we can no longer go through tunnels. Not a bad thing, love and kisses
Sorry to hear about your light we lost a tv aerial on a bridge in Oxford I seem to remember. It is very wet here I am looking forward yo some sunshine.
4:32 Wrong. I was a little kid in the 50's and THAT was the day of the house call. Dr. Merritt came out to my house and dispensed TLC and medicine from his black bag on his lunch hour when I was sick. Those were the days. Then dear Dr. Huddleston was such a wonderful gentleman. Physicians today wear anything and wouldn't go to your house if you were a-dying. Some things WERE better in the good ole days.
