Day 16 Resting at Rugby
Well am I pleased my bearded one had the good sense and intelligent foresight to spend most of yesterday lashed to the helm in order to arrive here safely last evening. All night long, until after lunch today here in Rugby it did not stop raining. It would have been an uncomfortable journey had we been required to travel this morning. As it happens we were very comfortable in my long kennel having a lazy day.. First thing I took my bearded one for a rather quick walk. Under the protection of an umbrella I managed to do what a boy has to do. Confined as we were inside the comfort of my long kennel in the morning, this was an opportunity for them to do a bit of kennel keeping and provisioning and a bit of napping for me. My long haired one went off to Tescos (I wasn’t invited) and Marks and Spencer both being close by. My bearded one elected to stay with me and he lit a fire.
When it had stopped raining I took him for a game in the park. He took my ball launcher and I waited in anticipation, with great aplomb he launched my ball far into the bushes – unrecoverable! One of my favourite balls. We played football instead. I met a swan who didn’t understand my bark, I think he was quite grumpy ( see today’s photo). I chased a couple of squirrels but they cheated as usual bolting up a tree.

You’ll catch a squirrel one day! We keep trying!
We are just packing our bags to go to kennels this afternoon.
Our owners are off to Hyde Park tomorrow for the big festival. We don’t mind cos we’d get bored listening to Status Quo & Elton John !
Then they fly to Spain – but are very sad that you are not there as they want to see your building & new pool!!
Ah well – try again next time!
Woof!

I hope your governors have a good concert and that they have a lovely time in Spain, I am sorry we will miss your visit this time. But don’t leave it too long and I hope you have a good time in your kennel hotel

As usual, your letters are a delight to read, Douglas.
Thank you xxx
Glad. To see you back; we leave for Spain Tuesday and will collect Blnca Wednesday.xx
I do hope your nose is better and I look forward to seeing you all soon. I hope your family had a good holiday we look forward to hearing all about it
We have been busy showing Billy our mountain – actually we think he knows it better than we do having spent weeks abandoned on it. And the captain (army) nearly had a fit when he discovered our cave under the balcony that we had dug, big enough for two of his kind (not an exaggeration he says) and probably the reason for the strange cracks we can see in the wall above. You keep barking about rain and we have no idea what you mean unless it is that stuff we saw last April…………the thing on the wall that changes numbers all on its own has been up to 40 here……
N&J (F,T and B can’t write yet-being spanish educated but we read them your stories)
Dear N&J and gang it seems you are being a bit naughty digging a cave under your masters own kennel this could be very dangerous. I expect it is nice and cool though and I know what fun it is to dig, I do it quite a lot. Usually when I am under a table in what they call a pub. I am glad you are looking after Billy I look forward to meeting him

Hi Douglas –
Daddy tells me he has managed to read all your entries now – he says he enjoys reading them. Good photos too.
You seem to be busy, he says, but the weather has been changeable. He has been wearing his shorts now every day for the past six weeks – I’m fed up looking at his knees – as the weather in Eastbourne remains glorious. He also reminds you to say hello to Rugby for him. Shopping on your own, eh? That’s clever.
They are meeting old friends and colleagues (whatever that means) of yours for lunch today, he tells me: Dod & Annie, Peter & Charlotte, Angela, Jean Janes, Tony and Kath. I’m not invited of course – still, it means I can have a nice peaceful sleep. I’ve been busy catching little field mice at night recently . . .
Love & scratches
Millie

So glad you persevered with the blog Douglas… We have spent a pleasant Sunday afternoon catching up with your adventures. I’m not sure if I know what “drizzle” and “blustery” mean but !y mum says I’ll remember soon – it’s been hot hot hot here for as long as I can remember!
Love and licks to all. Safe journey and sniff you soon. BD
So glad you persevered in reading them, I did write daily but the server whoever he might be went phishing whatever that might be but my bearded one’s son known as Guru sorted it.
Look forward to seeing you soon, it was a lovely day today. I had a bit of a fright yesterday, see today’s entry!
