Day 17 top of Wigan flight to top of flight at Wheelton.
As my bearded one and his friend Bob were left alone last night, they had a pub dinner, I had my usual supper on board of Chappie and bicuits and we all had an early night, we were so tired after our ascent from Wigan.
We were up early this morning and after they had a very good smelling breakfast and some dry biscuits for me they started cruising and we went in search of a pub as a lunch time venue. the sun was shining.
The plan was for my long haired one and our friend Sheila to come back to us at lunch time, returned by Barbie and Mike and our brief was to find a suitable meeting point where we would all lunch together. After cruising for a couple of hours they had found two pubs as on the map but one did not serve food and the other did not serve anything, it was all boarded up. Then it started raining.
In the event we all met up at a marina where we took on fuel. Here there was a cafe open seven days a week, closed on Sundays! Here we said good bye to our friends Barbie and Mike who left without lunch and we proceeded on our way. We cruised in the rain. until we arrived at a flight of 7 locks.
I like locks, lots of walking and socialising and today was a bonus because another long kennel joined us for the ascent. We arrived at the top in double quick time and here was a good looking pub at last. My owners and their friends seemed quite excited about going out for a meal and I was given a treat to stay on guard in the long kennel. Ten minutes later they all came back. The pub (called “Top Lock” ) stopped serving food at 7:00 pm! They all had an exciting game of rummikub. I slept.
My photos today as it was raining for most of it is us ascending with another boat at Wheelton and the pub with no food.

Remind me not to go to the Top Lock Pub or the marina cafe. Madness.
Yes we have had a long run of barren hostelries getting better
This is a most useful cointtburion to the debate
