Douglas Diary Sunday 1st May 2016 Day 12
After his exhausting day yesterday, I let him have another lie in this morning. ‘So at 07:00 I woke him and took him for his walk, we ventured into the slightly damp blue bell wood in which we were moored last night. I have to say it was looking much prettier than when we first arrived. It is the first day of May and I feel Spring is in the air. There is no wind and although the sky is grey it is a soft light – Welsh grey (with a touch of Raw Sienna). A beautiful dawn chorus welcomed us as we carefully picked our way through the puddles, the cowslips and bluebells, albeit these latter still sparse as I suspect it is a wee bit early for these Spring flowers up here in Wdymlffwdmw shire. Then, as they were enjoying their bacon and egg breakfast prior to departure back in my long kennel (I had eaten my Bonio earlier) there began the now familiar drumming of hailstones on the roof just to prove my seasonal optimism was misplaced. O bother I heard my bearded one say as he and his mate David climbed into their condom outfits to navigate my long kennel through the ice and rain to Chirk, our destination for today; four hours away! Well, miraculously after about two hours of battling the elements, it stopped raining and it was a really pleasant cruise through the undulating welsh countryside. I sat on the back deck accompanying my bearded one, I was counting the sheep. There were hundreds. At 17:00 right on schedule we arrived at a house called The Poachers Pocket, Mr Marston lives here, I think they are going to visit him. I am going to stay in my long kennel on guard. Love Douglas

What a good job you keep finding your old friends along the canal. I think they must lift your spirits after all that “cruising in the rain” I think there is a song in there somewhere. Today it is May Bank Holiday Monday and the rain that was forecast is pitter pattering onto our kennel roof, maybe it has left Wales and travelled down south and you are going to have better weather today. I was hoping to paint the ruined castle that is just by our mooring. It used to belong to King John I believe, but the painting will have to wait until the rain goes away. xx
My grownups haven’t painted at all mainly because of the rain I am sure but they have been very busy maybe in a while when the weather gets better and they are on their own again it may happen. Tomorrow we go on that giant aqueduct 1000 ft long 120 ft high scary.
