Day 17 Rugby –
Well, have I got a story to tell from last night. It was very nearly the last time you would ever hear from me. As you know, my family had a dinner date at The Harvester near by, this was the reason for us being where we were in Rugby. I was left in charge of the long kennel as I was not invited because Harvester pubs are not dog friendly. The pub was just 300 crow yards away from our mooring in the park but the other side of the very busy non stop traffic, four lane A426 Leicester to Rugby high speedway. Yes, at some stage, (I can’t tell the time) I pulled what I thought was a masterful Houdini trick (dislodge flimsy bolt push open doors and exit from long kennel underneath Cratch cover), I really don’t know what came over me. I then followed the scent of my carers along a path and through a small wood but then hit the road! I don’t remember how I survived. I was dancing all over the place I was apparently rescued by two separate motorists who stopped and helped me and guided me to safety. I caused quite a commotion it seems. When my family returned an hour and a half later I was waiting by my long kennel my tail between my legs shaking – I won’t do that again.
Anyway it is a lovely day today and I am exhausted after my experience. We had a leisurely departure from Rugby and I slept on the poop deck helping him with the navigation. We stopped for lunch at a pretty spot called Easenhall and here I was happy to watch my bearded one and my long haired one as they each painted a picture. This was more than enough excitement for one day (my picture for today.)

Oh dear oh dear, what a worry you are Douglas. You jolly well know we can’t do without you and never ever want to hear you getting into such a close shave again. Do hope your carers have got over your adventure. Very nice picture by the way, we love it, xx
The great escape ! Such a worry for them I know but I just couldn’t help myself, actually I thought I was quite clever. Unfortunately, I am unable to relate all the drama on the road but some very nice people rescued me and stayed with me. Such nice people. Xxx
Douglas – you really are very naughty and, it seems, lucky, too. You must gave given your mummy and daddy a bad scare.
Needless to say, I don’t behave like that (but then I am far too lazy to do anything of the sort).
Glad you had a better day today, anyway. My mummy and daddy say they had a lovely lunch today reminiscing about the old days at St Andrew’s. Sounds very boring to me – I stayed at home of course and went to sleep.

Yes I know my bearded one was very disappointed that he could not join you all at the reunion lunch and anyway, The Ship is not one of my favourite places it is very dog unfriendly. I am not even allowed in the garden! Would you believe that an old English pub? but then it is owned by a non native from a land where they eat dogs. I hope I got a mention at the lunch at least my bearded one.
Wow wow woof! What an awesome adventure!! The staff are probably still in shock but I am in awe of your ingenuity my friend… Relieved it all ended well. PS my Mum loves the painting; I sniffed it but, frankly, it did nothing for me. Perhaps the original is tastier?
I am not sure the staff were so impressed with my escapologist. I thought I was being very clever but I got really frightened once I had achieved it and all those speeding short kennels were terrifying. I don’t think I want to do that again.
Love Douglas
