Douglas Diary Thursday 19th May 2016
Now we have come to the end of my voyage with my long kennel for this Spring. I have helped my bearded one navigate over 220 miles which means I most probably walked at least a hundred over the 28 days. I was always on duty to help my long haired one open and close the gates on 150 locks together we raised and lowered my long kennel many hundreds of feet. We have been underground in pitch black for several miles (scary) through six tunnels and over some high aqueducts most memorably that big Welsh one (more scary) by Tom Telford that I can’t spell. We have done this in all conditions that the British climate can offer including sleet which I rarely see and quite enjoyed. I have been wet and dry and hot and cold and loved it all. We have had a few mechanical hiccups, none of which turned out to be serious and all are now resolved. Thank you all so much for sharing my adventures and a special thank you to all for your comments. I hope I did not bore you with some of the less eventful days and I hope you were entertained by some of the more unusual. As I said in my first entry before we set off a month ago on April 17th my bearded one makes me write this log as he calls it, principally because his memory is not as reliable as mine and without it he wouldn’t know where he has been. On his behalf I would like to apologise for the lack of quality in some photographs something to do with tightwad and gigabytes. The week or so ahead, before we start our journey back to Spain, I will be visiting various branches of my family in my short kennel. If anything interesting happens I will write another diary page. In the mean time, I will say good bye for now that my long kennel is safe in my private park at Kings Bromley and thank you all. Sorry there is no photo today, tightwad has run out of mobile megabytes Lots of love Douglas xx

Dear Douglas:
Thank you for sharing details of your adventures.
Much love,

Hello Douglas.Lesley and I have been following your exploits from sunny portugal which is quite near where lour long haired and bearded ones live in
a place they call Spain We are glad you all survived your voyage and consider it a privilege that you welcomed us on board to share some of the fun.
Dear Douglas,
Forgive me if I appear to be shy but this is the first time have corresponded with a dog. It is especially scary as when I read your diary entries I feel that you are somewhat more intelligent than most of the humans I know.
We are very fond of your long haired and short haired ones and thank you so much for letting them share your adventure and for looking after them. I’m not sure how old they are in ‘dog years’ but they are certainly getting on a bit. so do take care of them on the journey back to Spain where we look forward to seeing you all again.
The weather here is now beautiful and we hope that you will sit in the shade of our garden soon after you return….perfectly alright to bring along your elderly ones as I know how hard you have worked on their behavioural training.
Not long before I will hear your friendly bark !!
Much love to you all

We loved every post, thank you Douglas. Will you be coming to see us in your short kennel? x
My Dad would do donut runs with both sister and I. Some lovely memories we experienced during those Sunday mornings. Hope fry fry become a tradition for you and your little one.
It has been our pleasure as always to share your adventures. Your trip has been memorable and made us smile many times, thank you, xx
Hi there Douglas!
Lila here writing as my owners have had a very busy couple of months running up and down the A1 looking after their father and all his animals.
I am going to make a VERY big sacrifice and let my cocker nephew Wybrow come and live with us! He is white with spots just like me.
I am a bit apprehensive as they keep saying that he is “very bouncy” whatever that means!
I’ll try knocking off the sofa and see what happens!
He seems to be quite intelligent and so may learn very quickly that I am the boss!
I am staying with my dog minder Hazel and all her other house guests – about 6 of us and we all go swimming in the river every day. I’ve got a short coat now – so I get less muddy which seems to make everyone happy 🙂
My owners have been in Spain all week and said that they had a fantastic time in Cadiz & Jerez – especially the sherry tasting bit ! They fly home Wednesday.
We will all write soon !
Lots of love
Lila xx
