Day 7 Marston Doles – Claydon
It is still summer, warm, dry, and sunny and ahead today we have eleven dreamy miles of depopulated summit level. There are no locks, just a few farm bridges as dis-embarkation points where I can take my long haired one ashore for her exercise. There is of course still no wifi or mobile signal to speak of which seems to irritate my bearded one.
We stopped for a very pleasant break in the garden of the Wharf Inn at Fenny Compton. They ate a hearty lunch I sat under the table. My long haired one used their washing machine facilities to do some laundry and this seemed to make her happy.
Our destination today is Claydon top lock for our overnight stay. This little clutch of old workshop buildings ( now a residence) is of particular interest to my bearded one as he used to own a lease on it 280 dog years ago. This is another long story. Today he and my long haired one are hoping to get their paints out to do some sketching, I find this very boring.. My picture today is inside my long kennel and you might notice the sun has just apparently passed over the yard arm, I am having a little rest. Love Douglas x

Hello Douglas –
Just catching up on your travels – for some reason, I have to log on as Anonymous as I can’t subscribe to your adventures direct. Never mind.
Daddy says he heaved a sigh of nostalgia – whatever than means – when you passed through Rugby as apparently it was where he went to school for five years – but he says he doesn’t remember the pubs you mention (he went to others in the middle of town . . . )
You’ve been having more fun than me with the interesting places you have visited. My only excitement is sitting on the window sill at supper time and making sure the fox knows who is boss around here,
Anyway, I hope (I suppose) I’ll see you when you’re back in Eastbourne –
Love and scratcches
Millie
Sure will kiddo. We will call before we get on that very very big kennel on 23 red I think.
