Douglas diary Tuesday 6th October 2015
It is an extra ordinary thing, I have just taken my bearded one for his early morning walk by the lake in Westport Park, it is warm, (he is wearing shirt sleeves) the sun is shining and there is no wind, that is against all forecasts but the real extra ordinary thing is I walked through a flock of Canada geese that were grazing and I did not attempt to chase one of them. Is that odd, am I getting old? When I got back to my long kennel my long haired one was still in bed, I put my paws on the bed to kiss her and got into trouble , goose poo was not welcome.
My regular readers will notice the marked lack of photographs in this current series, this is due to tight wad not buying enough megabytes to feed his mobile devices whatever they are, we have had this problem before, I apologies on his behalf and hope to resolve the issue soon.
Our first adventure this morning was the Harecastle tunnel. I was very frightened but my owners kept cuddling me in reassurance having told me it was nearly one thousand four hundred dog years old! We entered this hole in the hillside it was pitch black except for some rather dim lights on my long kennel. We were forty minutes under ground and we travelled nearly two miles before emerging into daylight once again. I was only six when we went in!
Then we were faced with lots of locks at Kidsgrove which made me feel much better as I was able to walk for miles until it started to rain quite hard and my long haired one thought it was time for lunch. It cleared up right after lunch and we ambled on to the Broughton Arms for our overnight stop where my bearded one was re acquainted with his friend Mr Hobgoblin. They had a very nice meal. Love Douglas

Hello Douglas –
It’s good to see a photo of you but what are you actually doing in it? It looks as if you are licking – well, I’m far too polite a cat to say what. Anyway, your long haired one and Albert look happy.
As for bringing goose poo into bed – really!
Eastbourne weather has been mixed – Daddy didn’t manage to play golf yesterday because it was raining. He did have a go on the driving range and was lent a club to try out. Since the club cost £89 and didn’t do anything special, he decided to spend the money on more food for me instead – a good decision.
You can tell your bearded one that my daddy also had a drink with the Frenchman who is in your Eastbourne home at the moment. Very interesting, he says – did your bearded one know that he had resigned from his teaching post after three weeks? The Frenchman is coming for a meal on Friday when my Uncle Chris and Auntie Penny are going to be here too.
Love and scratches
Millie
Great news that Chris and Penny will meet Sebastien, sorry about the golf and the weather, we have had it good mostly and I have walked all four feet off love Douglas
Hi everyone,
Glad to find the web site fixed. You seem to be having a great time!
All fine here; still swimming daily. Despite the horrendous storm of last week, the pool temperature is 24 degrees, so eminently ‘swimmable’.
Your friends at the Cook household have had some sad happenings. Alfie died after his long and happy life and a few days ago, Foxy had to have surgery after swallowing a fish hook on the Benajarafe beach. He came home yesterday, after two days in hospital and is feeling very sorry for himself
Our love to you all,
Anne Keith and Blanca xxx
Envious of the 24 degrees but we are enjoying about 16 in the British Autumn, so sorry to hear of Alfie and poor Foxy, it is always a worrying risk on the beach please send our love and warm wishes. Did not know about your storm, hope my house in The hills survived, there has been nothing spectacular here in fact we are very pleased with the mild and dryish weather so far, he only wore his wet suit once yesterday. I don’t like the rain. Love Douglas x
Hello Douglas:
Lucky you to be having so many adventures!
The weather is Canada is mild today but the leaves are beginning to turn colour. My garden is full of fall blooms so it still looks wonderful.
Hope the bearded one is doing lots of pen and ink sketches as he travels.
My warmest regards to you all,
Nancy
My bearded one and long haired one well remember the stunning trees that you have in October as they visited a couple of years ago. Our trees are turning but we don’t have such wonderful colours. I love trees they have squirrels in them love Douglas
