Douglas Diary Tuesday 3rd May 2016 Day14
Wow not a cloud in the sky this morning. My bearded one woke me! It was only 06:15 but he had started my engines and had maneuvered my long kennel to a water point to fill up in preparation for our journey into Llangollen. We stopped last night just before the start of Telford’s masterpiece crossing the Dee valley over 1000 ft long and 120 ft high. Scary it is. After this we had a pleasant cruise to Llangollen without incident although there were many opportunities for some of these: navigation on the beautiful but shallow and winding canal appeared to be quite a challenge for some newly acquired long kennel drivers of the hiring variety. We arrived in good time for lunch. We were all welcome at an Italian restaurant just above the river Dee which was foaming its way through the town. After this we parted company with our gallant crew Maureen and David who were to be taxied back to their own short kennel left at Nantwich. Then my long haired one thought it would be a grand idea if we three walked to The Horseshoe Falls! This is at the head of the canal un-navigable for the next two miles. We did it, it took over two hours there and back with a rest in between at a lovely spot (Chainbridge Hotel) overlooking the falls. They had tea! Back on my long kennel, I had my supper (Chappie again) then my long haired one did some washing and we all had a siesta. The weather has held up all day it has been dry not windy and tolerably cool. My photo today is of the spectacular Pontcysylite Aqueduct crossing over the Dee valley note our shadow on the fields below on the left hand side where there is nothing else! Love Douglas

Hello Douglas, it is good to hear from you and that you are having a nice time in your long kennel, ‘the aqueduct sounds fun. We have great memories of the few days we spent with you last autumn. We have been very busy with our family, some of whom have 3 of your kind, but much smaller and noisier and generally rather naughty – they have been staying with us for 10 days. We will soon be going on a very very long kennel in France with Heather & Simon. Do tell the long- and short-haired ones that we also have a new short kennel just the same as yours – a yeti.
We do hope you have a very enjoyable trip with lots of nice walks and lovely weather. Love, Mair and Tony
Lovely to hear from you M&T and thank you for writing to me. We are all very pleased you have a Yeti short kennel. I like mine very much. We hope you have a lovely trip on the very very long kennel in France, we will be thinking of you. We are expecting some more crew to arrive this weekend plus two of my kind from the Labrador tribe they belong to my bearded one’s son’s family so there will be four grownup humans and two growing ups as well on board phew! I expect there will be plenty of walks.
Lots of love Douglas
Telford’s Pontcysylite Aqueduct looks like quite a magnificent feat, Wales Pont du Gard. Stay on the kennel Douglas, no time to chase a butterfly.
