Douglas Diary Wednesday 14th October 2015
Yet another bright sunny morning and even a bit warmer, no frost early when I took my bearded one for his walk. We met several of my friends and had some sniffs and passed the time of day, amongst other things.
We are leaving Penkridge for Great Haywood today on the penultimate stretch of our journey. It will be an easy run with very few locks and only about four hours journey so my bearded one tells me. However, this will not account for any stops we might make and I know I will take my long haired one and Sheila for many walks along the way while my long kennel keeps pace. We arrived at Great Haywood (see photo) and this is where I started this diary over two weeks ago and it is where Shugborough Halł is situated, the home of the late Lord Lichfield, now a National trust property. This is one of my favourite places to stop with my long kennel there is plenty to see and explore, it is very pretty the river Trent is just nearby. My bearded one and my long haired one often paint in this area but not today as we have arrived it has got rather cloudy and a little cool. I think I heard a bottle of wine opening and the fire has been lit. I think they are settling in for an evening on board. Love Douglas

Oh Douglas you are funny, did you get a glass of wine? Mike and I also have very happy memories of a stay in your favourite spot. It is lovely there and we have yet to visit the house of Lord Litchfield. Although I think we did on one occasion and saw some rather lovely photographs of the Royal Family. See you Monday, lots of love, Auntie Barbie and Uncle Mike, xxx
