Douglas Diary 20th August 2014
Well, here we are back on the Trent and Mersey on our way back to port. So sorry about yesterday’s diary, the 19th – I wrote it, not that it was that interesting and I think I accidentally ate it. I cannot find it anywhere. Basically, we travelled most of the day and much of it was in the rain so I slept, I do not like getting wet. because we needed to get back to near a railway station in Stoke for Mike and Barbie to return and also to meet up with my bearded one’s son Noah who was passing through Stoke this morning! Anyway, last night we moored up near Mr Toby Carvery’s house and I got quite excited which was a waste of time. They left me on guard in my long kennel, they went to visit Mr Toby and apparently had a very very nice meal. I had chappie and a few bloody biscuits – no treats for my diligent security work!
Anyway, let me tell you about the “Planet” lock. You will recall that I told you we met some characters apparently looking for some lost crack cocaine here on our way through when we first joined the Caldon Canal – see my diary of 14th August – well about four or five days ago, the day or so after, my owners saw in the newspaper (something they appear to study occasionally) on the front page headline “Man dies on Caldon Canal”. It transpires that this was in the same area as Planet Lock where we saw this strange exploration going on. Anyway, three days ago it was stated in a subsequent news paper that the deceased fell off a narrowboat at about the time of our transit. Two days ago it was reported that the reason he fell off a narrowboat was that he had a bullet in him! We do not know if our meeting with that strange search party was in any way connected but…. an interesting true story?
We have said farewell to our visitors and today we visited the Wedgwood centre which they enjoyed and I was allowed into the shop providing I did not wag my tail.
We are now moored for the night in Stone – a very nice town and they have told me we are going out for supper as there is no food left on board my long kennel, only Chappie. Sorry no photos today.
