Douglas Diary Summer Holidays 2018
You would not believe what I have been doing these last few days! As I write, I am staying on a very large kennel in a place called Rufford which is near Preston in Lancashire. The kennel is known to humans as a wide beam boat as opposed to my long kennel which is called by some people a narrow boat. It is the same length as mine but it is twice as wide but it is luxurious, built only a few months ago. It has a name Chianti and it belongs to a very nice lady called Patricia who is a friend of our friends Barbie and Mike who come and stay with me often. My picture is my long haired one and me inside. You may recall, Barbie and Mike have a long kennel too. We have come to Lancashire in my short kennel for a few days to visit them in their home territory. They love me and I love them.
After a busy morning we all got into my short kennel and two hours later we arrived in Rufford and were welcomed by Barbie and Mike and settled into our temporary accommodation Chianti. It is a beautiful kennel furnishing is white leather and chrome and very smart. I have to be very careful to wipe my feet. In the evening we went to a very nice dog friendly restaurant and I had a good position under their table for a nap until I was woken with a bit of excitement as somebody upset a glass of red wine and it dripped all over me!
We all decided we would go on an excursion to Carnforth and this means a train journey, I like trains in fact we went on five. You may know that Carnforth Railway Station was made famous years ago (1945), long before I was born by a film called Brief Encounter. Now a classic that was directed by David Lean from a play by Noel Coward. Wisely the Railway Station and specifically the tea room around which the story was centred has been retained as it was 500 dog years ago. It is now a museum and heritage centre. The play is a love story of two humans starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson. My bearded one and my long haired in a re-enactment sat at the same table. See my photo.
