Our Hotel Euba just outside Bilbao was really very comfortable and surprisingly reasonable and only 36 minutes from the Port of Bilbao, according to Mavis who I think my bearded one had forgiven for yesterday’s debacle.
I woke him quite early for his walk 07:00 as we had to get to the Port for check in. there was not a lot of choice for me for the things I have to do in the immediate vicinity but I did manage to find a suitable bush. This seemed to please my bearded one. I like to please him.
We arrived at the Port and there was the huge kennel called Cap Finistaire waiting to take us on board along with lots of other short kennels and big trucks. There was no problems this year with my passport as last year.
First thing on board was an inspection of territory. We, very special guests – dogs – have specific areas where we are allowed and much more area where we are not allowed. The allowed area has been enlarged a bit from the last time I was here. see photo today. They call this an exercise area – huh! It is really for P’s&P’s. I know these things, I have done it before.
On this deck Number ten there is also a cafe nearby and my bearded one was really excited as he had identified a Full English Breakfast on offer that to which I know he was much looking forward!
Then we settled in our cabin, they listened to a story, I slept and after a little while they, the bearded one and the long haired one, left me on guard while they went to eat! I had already eaten my biscuits.
It is here that it all went a bit wrong for them, apparently the huge kennel runs on GB time and when my bearded one arrived at the cafe and was eagerly waiting in line for his FEB, just when it was his turn and his mouth was watering, the eggs, bacon, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and hash brown, there was a shout from the kitchen – "Le petit dejeurner est finis" bugger he said.
There was a ten minute recess as the culinary department re-assembled from breakfast to lunch with no FEB on the menu and my bearded one ate a stew and went into a big long deep sulk.
The day passed pleasantly enough, I slept most of the time,
There were quite a few miniature humans on board behaving like dervishes making quite a lot of noise. The highlight of this short smooth voyage was for them, dinner. It was excellent so they said. I quite enjoyed my chicken with vegetable pate.
