Douglas Diary Summer holidays 2018
Shugborough Hall to Penkridge
We are very lucky with the weather this late September. It really is like Summer this morning and the first thing we did was to walk around Shugborough Hall. I went for a swim up to my arm pits in the river Trent. See my photo. I have just come out of the water.
Unfortunately they decided they could not afford the £13 (having done it before) to enter the Estate proper and so we just walked around the perimeter. This was quite interesting I saw some cows and trees but they seemed to enjoy it.
We had a lovely day on the water as we left Great Haywood and turned onto the Staffs and Worcestershire at Haywood Junction for a magical cruise to Penkridge. This is a really pretty stretch and as I have to repeat, the weather was gorgeous. We arrived at tea time. We did several locks and I had plenty of walks. We moored by The Boat more or less in the centre of the pretty village which is a pub and it was steak night! This did not thrill my long haired one but she had a special vegetable dish specially prepared for her without the spice that was advertised as on offer. I had some Chappie before we left my long kennel and there were three rib-eye steaks ordered rare. There was nothing left for me.
