Douglas Diary Spring Holidays – Day 18
I do not understand this English weather, yesterday it was Winter, today it is Summer. It is sunny and warm and today it is also Ironman 70.3 day! This is something else I do not fully understand.
This is when hundreds of humans (2071 to be exact on this occasion) get together in this area to put themselves through a punishing and continuous routine of swimming, cycling and running that lasts for most of the day.
Please do not ask me or my bearded pet why they do this because it is a bit beyond our comprehension. My long-haired pet, however, does understand a bit as she used to do some of this sort of thing before I was born.
This is called a Triathlon whatever that means. It involves getting up at the crack of dawn, going for a long swim in a cold reservoir for a race against the clock for 1.2 miles to see who can survive. Then, those who do, jump on a bike and ride for 56 miles on a road through beautiful countryside (no engine) again to beat the clock and then survivors who complete this abandon their bikes and start running just for an hour or two doing another 13.1 miles around the roads of Stafford. For fun!
I have some friends who come to see me in Spain called Jackie and John who are otherwise quite sane and lovely people, this is what they do – triathlons! Like I go for walks.
I watched bits of this with my pets we saw then fly past on their bikes as they passed our marina early this morning See my photo and then we went to Stafford in my short kennel to meet up with my pets friends Barbie and Mike whose pups are Jackie and John who were the participants. We saw them running at different places around the town – having a lovely time.
I waved my paw and cheered a lot. I was quite tired just watching I would like to have done some of the running and then we had lunch and came home to my long kennel for a rest.
