Douglas Diary Summer Holidays 2018
Stoke Bruerne
Yes Bank holiday Sunday and there is hardly anyone visiting Stoke Bruerne in Long Kennels anyway, we counted less than half a dozen on our walk this morning. We were surprised. The weather was overcast, not a breath of wind and quite cool, my bearded one is muttering about lighting a fire perhaps later on. One factor might be the weather forecast to account for the lack of visitors. At 10:00 it proved correct as it started to rain. Apparently it is to be heavy all day and this is why we have elected to stay put today and besides, we have visitors for lunch.
Being stationary enables my bearded one and my long haired one opportunities to do a bit of kennel maintenance. He filled my stern gland greaser today, I watched with interest. He also dis assembled my head light (which is very splendid as some of my photos will show ) because he noticed coming through that dreadful tunnel that he couldn’t see much – just to add to my alarm! He cleaned it thoroughly and put it back together again. My long haired one has been amongst other kennel keeping things been playing with that nosey sucking machine that I try to avoid.
Our planned cruise to Milton Keynes probably still two cruising days away is to enable my long haired one to visit another daughter (Victoria) quite conveniently as she lives not too far away, about as close as we can get in my long kennel. This will mean she will be away for a couple of days and this will be an opportunity for my bearded one and me to do some outside painting of my kennel if the weather stays dry.
We had a really lovely time with our friends Lawson and Jan over a long lunch. They drove to see us from in St Ives in Cambridgeshire. We shared a long kennel with them many years ago and they also have a house in Spain quite near us. I sat under their table of course while they chatted and I had to tell a little upstart inquisitive intruder dog to go away and not to invade my space.
My photo today is the Boat Inn where we had lunch, I was given some treats by the nice owner. It rained all day as we expected.
Love Douglas x
Our owners want to thank you Douglas and your patient owners for entertaining them today on your long kennel. They thought you had done a wonderful job with the old greaser!
We hear that you were so well behaved and did a wonderful job in the pub guarding the table from all those tiny handbag dogs sniffing around. I think you really deserved the biscuits the bar staff gave you. You didn’t even have to buy their ankles for them !
I hope the dry weather returns soon and you can go back to squirrel spotting along the towpath.
Our owners say thank you to all for such a lovely catchup day !
Lots of love

I’m very worried to hear that your stern gland greaser needed attention. It sounds most uncomfortable. I’m glad you’re OK, anyway.
